Thermal Cycling Testing

Environmental testing services for temperature cycling, climatic testing and product validation.

Discover Our Cycling Capabilities and Climatic Testing Service

At Withnell Sensors, we offer thermal cycling testing, also referred to as temperature cycling. This service recreates environmental conditions within our specialist climatic chambers, allowing customers to test how products and materials will perform when exposed to extreme working environments.

The information gathered from climatic and temperature cycling tests helps identify areas for improvement, assess product viability and validate performance before deployment. We offer both constant climatic testing and temperature cycling testing for products, components and materials.

Temperature Stability ±0.5°C

Our Unique Thermal Cycling Testing Services

Using in-house market-leading Kambic equipment, temperature and humidity conditions can be recreated to an extremely high degree of accuracy. We pride ourselves on offering highly precise climatic testing with temperature cycling conducted by our experienced engineers and laboratory staff.

We can test over a temperature range of -40°C to +180°C and 10% to 90% relative humidity. Overall temperature stability is approximately ±0.5°C, with temperature uniformity of less than 1.5°C, ensuring highly repeatable conditions for thermal cycling testing.

Our chamber provides an internal test volume of 600 x 610 x 510 mm and an 80kg maximum weight capacity. Internal racking allows multiple items to be tested simultaneously, while shelving can be removed for larger products.

Climatic Testing Made Simple

Climatic testing is used to evaluate the performance of composites, electronic assemblies, plastics and metal products through exposure to controlled temperature and humidity conditions.

High temperatures and humidity can contribute to product failures including corrosion, wear and mould growth.

Moisture penetration can also cause materials to swell and degrade, leading to functional issues and reduced product lifespan. Climatic testing allows these risks to be identified before products are released into service.

Environmental Stress Testing for Product Reliability

Thermal cycling testing exposes products to changing temperature and humidity conditions over extended periods.

These tests may also be referred to as:

  • Damp Heat Testing
  • 85/85 Testing
  • Temperature Cycling
  • Stress Cycling

Samples can undergo cycling programmes lasting from hundreds to thousands of hours, with varying temperature set points and humidity levels reaching up to 98% RH.

For extended programmes, products can be removed periodically for interim electrical testing, inspection and performance verification.
